The Groombrønnen is a fountain in the Norwegian city of Stavanger .

It is located on the west side of Nedre Strandgate street near number 17, west of the port of Vågen , not far from the Stavanger Maritime Museum .

The fountain was built by Boye Petersen around 1800 on the site of a well known since the Middle Ages . The water in the well was of good quality and was also used to stock many ships in the nearby harbor. He also had a role in fire protection for the city. The well has a diameter of three meters and a depth of 5.3 meters. The name, in German Groombrunnen , was created after an English company GW Groom , which owned the fountain around 1900.

There is a small board next to the fountain that provides information on the history of the fountain in Norwegian .
