The Vågen is a port of the Norwegian city of Stavanger .

The North Sea port, which is ice-free all year round due to the Gulf Stream, extends from the north to downtown Stavanger. Shortly before its southern end, it has a depth of up to 14 meters and is therefore also suitable for large ships and a popular berth for large cruise ships. Its total length is about three kilometers.

On the east side of the southern end is the Skagenkaien , with the distinctive buildings Tollboden and Hotel Victoria . Which is at the southern tip of Vågens Marine Monument . The historic Gamle Stavanger district stretches to the west , as well as the Stavanger Maritime Museum and the monument to Admiral Thore Horve .

In the northern part of the Vågens lying archipelago Tjuvholmen , majors , Majorgrunnen , Majorskjeret , Plentingen and Natvigs Minne .

Vågen was already Stavanger's port in historical times. 60 of the 250 old warehouses originally grouped around the harbor are still preserved today. At that time, the water reached right up to the houses, which meant that goods could be handled directly with moored ships. At the beginning of the 20th century, quays were built in front of the buildings. This work was completed in 1910.

There are various restaurants and bars in the vicinity of Vågens. The area is also the venue for various festivals. In 2009 the beach volleyball world championship was held at Vågen .

The port is the home port of the listed ship Rogaland .
