Groote Oost
Groote Oost was the name of a governorate in the Dutch East Indies from 1938 . It was administered by a governor. The administrative seat was Makassar .
The governorate consisted of:
- the island of Celebes with two sub-areas (residenties):
- the Lesser Sunda Islands with 2 sub-areas (residenties):
- Bali Lombok. Main town Buleleng = Singaradja in Bali .
- Timor and Onderhoorigheden. Main town Kupang on Timor .
- the Residentie Moluccas , established in 1935, referred to as the Moluccas Governorate from 1925 to 1935, which also included New Guinea. Main town Ambon on the island of Ambon .
- the Residentie Nieuw-Guinea founded after the Second World War .
