Groote Oost

Groote Oost was the name of a governorate in the Dutch East Indies from 1938 . It was administered by a governor. The administrative seat was Makassar .

The governorate consisted of:

  •   the island of  Celebes with two sub-areas (residenties):
  • the Lesser Sunda Islands with 2 sub-areas (residenties):
  • the Residentie Moluccas , established in 1935, referred to as the Moluccas Governorate from 1925 to 1935, which also included New Guinea. Main town Ambon on the island of Ambon .
  • the Residentie Nieuw-Guinea founded after the Second World War .
