Groten
Groten (plural Groten, sometimes also Grote as a nominal or value ) is the name for a North German small groschen , which was originally 4 Meißner Pfennig and then later 5 (lower value ) swarms . It is linguistically related to the English groat (= 4 pence).
In Bremen and Oldenburg the Groten was valid until the introduction of the Goldmark on July 1, 1872. In Bremen: 1 Taler Gold = 72 Grote = 360 Swars . In 1872 there were pieces of 12 Groten, 6 Groten, 1 Groten and ½ Groten.
According to the Coin Act of December 4, 1871 , 10 gold marks corresponded to 280/93 Bremische Taler gold. This resulted in the conversion:
1 thaler of gold = 3.32 marks, 1 groten = 0.05 marks, 1 swarm = 0.01 marks
