Rosa (first name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rosa or Rose is a feminine given name .

Origin and meaning of the name

The name Rosa is Latin and means ' rose '. It can be found in the early Middle Ages as a vulgar latinized short form of Germanic names in ancient Germanic hrod- 'horse, horse', such as Rosamund or Rosalind . As such it can be found in the Middle Ages in the Romance-speaking area. This also creates an association with the "rose" Maria ( Maria of the Rosary , Maria in the rose garden ).

The name came to the German-speaking world in the course of the middle modern period. It only became popular on its own in the 19th century, when the flower names and viola appeared .
