Rosa Yassin Hassan

Rosa Yassin Hassan ( Arabic روزا ياسين حسن, DMG Rūzā Yāsīn Ḥasan ; * December 1, 1974 in Damascus , Syria ) is a Syrian author and human rights activist.

Life

Yassin was born in Damascus in 1974 and graduated in architecture in 1998. She has been writing short stories and novels since the 1990s. She is a suffragette and founded the Syrian Association Women for Democracy . In 2009 she took part in the writing competition for 39 Arab authors under 40 years of age, which had been announced in Beirut by UNESCO under the title Beirut 39 .

On August 13, 2012, she wrote in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung about the developments in Syria during the civil war in June and July 2012 .

With the help of the Heinrich Böll Foundation , the author managed to escape to Germany in autumn 2012. She is currently a guest of the Hamburg Foundation for the Politically Persecuted .
