Grow cabinet
A grow cabinet or grow box (from the English to grow , to grow) is a system for cultivating plants in a (temporary) cabinet, which, however, is mostly used for the illegal cultivation of bogus hemp ( Cannabis sativa , Cannabis indica , Sativa-indica - hybrids ) used by marijuana . The word grow cabinet is a neologism that means something like " grow cabinet ". This type of cultivation is also known as " indoor growing ".
In a grow cabinet, unlike outdoor cultivation (" outdoor growing ") , hemp can be grown all year round and regardless of the weather. Since it is illegal in many states to grow hemp for the production of marijuana or hashish , the grow cabinet is used to cultivate small to medium quantities in secret.

There are two types of grow cabinets. Self-built grow cabinets are usually improvised cabinets made of chipboard or are converted bedroom cabinets . The second type are commercially available grow cabinets from industrial production, which are manufactured in different sizes. The first professional grow cabinet was built in 1991 by the Growbox company from Switzerland. These industrial grow cabinets today mainly consist of metal rods and plastic sheets made of internally reflective and externally sealing material, they usually have prefabricated openings for cables and hoses, the principle corresponds to that of a tent. Common dimensions are 60 cm × 60 cm × 120 cm to 120 cm × 120 cm × 200 cm. Due to their design, they are easy to assemble and dismantle.
Furnishing
The equipment of a grow cabinet includes thermometers , hygrometers , timers, lamps, black and white foil, as well as ventilation elements such as fans , activated carbon filters , silencers and small fans.
The lighting is mostly provided by fluorescent lamps or high-pressure sodium vapor lamps controlled by time switches . The black and white film serves as a layer impermeable to air and light to seal off from the outside world. The fan is used to dissipate heat, exchange air and remove bad odors. The extracted air is freed from the distinctive smell of blooming marijuana by means of an activated carbon filter and the noise of the fan is suppressed by means of a silencer. Smaller fans are used for air circulation, which - especially at higher temperatures (e.g. when cultivating tropical plants) - are intended to prevent or reduce the spread of pests and fungi. It is grown on soil or with hydroponic systems on coconut mats or rock wool .
Nowadays, grow cabinets are often operated with modern LED lights , which are specially designed to supply the plants with the right light spectrum and use less energy than systems with fluorescent or sodium vapor lamps.

Although a grow cabinet can be used for all types of plants, it is primarily used to cultivate THC-containing hemp. This is illegal in Germany. For the legal cultivation of all other plants, it is usually more practical and cheaper to use a greenhouse. Since hemp plants can no longer be used after the flowering phase with normal cultivation, larger cabinets are sometimes divided or several cabinets / boxes are used next to one another in order to be able to continuously gain cuttings ( clones ). In a “mother's cupboard”, a female plant is kept in the vegetative phase for a long time with the help of the lighting duration.
Despite the increased legal risk involved in the cultivation of hemp for drug production - the cultivation of bogus hemp is punished more severely than the mere possession of own daily requirements - and the sometimes high investment and operating costs, grow cabinets are still used because cannabis is from in-house production compared to Goods available on the street do not contain any extenders , hardly any fertilizer residues, pesticides, mold spores or dirt and there is no contact with criminal structures.
