The Drei Brüder mine was one of the first ore mines of the second mining period in the Upper Harz . Named after the three brothers Ernst, Wolfgang and Philipp von Grubenhagen, the mine was located west of Clausthal (today a district of Clausthal-Zellerfeld ) and built on the Rosenhöfer gangway .
history
The mine had been in operation since around 1560, but the first silver was not brought out until 1588. Since the first 30 meters of the corridor had already been beaten by the old man , the economic importance of the pit was of little importance. In the following decades, phases of low ore extraction alternated with phases of penalties . In 1691 the ore supplies were exhausted. From 1693 Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz tried out the "perfect weight compensation" of a conveyor chain and developed the spiral drum that is still used in mining today . From 1722 the pit served as an auxiliary structure for other pits.
Traces and remains
On the Teichdamm street in Clausthal-Zellerfeld you can still find the mine house of the Drei Brüder mine. Next to it is a Dennert fir tree that points to the pit.
