The Dennert fir tree , also known as Dennert's Christmas tree , Dennert table , Dennert spruce or mining fir (in the Lower Harz), is a table that was originally used in Upper Harz mining on sites, traces and monuments of mining , such as the Upper Harz water shelf or also reminded of personalities in mining history. It is now also used to document other memorable sites in the Harz, such as the Unterharzer pond and ditch system .

Emergence

The first Dennert fir was erected on October 9, 1949 near the former Sarepta mine in Clausthal . It was donated by the Kraft- und Wasserwirtschaft GmbH of Preussag AG , which operated the Upper Harz water shelf at the time. Name giver and initiator was Oberbergrat Herbert Dennert (1902-1994), who campaigned for the preservation of mining monuments and wrote several publications about the Upper Harz mining.

The panels, measuring 75 × 80 cm, were originally made of wood. The basic color is yellow with a green border, framed by black edge protection. The location is named and information is given under a mallet-and-iron symbol .

The texts on the panels were researched and formulated personally by Dennert from 1949 to 1981. The Upper Harz History and Museum Association looks after over 200 panels on an area of 100 km².

Expansion

In addition to the original objects, Dennerttannen now provide information in many places in the Harz about a wide variety of sights, cultural relics or buildings.

Due to the better weather resistance, new products are no longer made of wood, but of plastic or aluminum sheet, whereby the black edge protection is dispensed with.

Dennert fir trees, which were set up by communities or branch associations of the Harz Club , have the coat of arms of the respective community at the top instead of mallets and iron. For example, the Harzklub branch association Braunlage looked after around 60 tables in April 2009.
