The Johann I mine is a former lignite mine in the Bensberg ore district in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the Paffrath district .

history

Alfred Hunter unsuspected on 24 June 1874 as a representative of the corporation Bergwerksverein Friedrich Wilhelms-Hütte the brown coal mine field Johann I. The award document dated 24 January 1875 issued to the aforementioned companies on lignite.

It is not known that there was any mining operation. The lignite deposit near the Paffrath mill, roughly between Herkenfelder Weg and Goldbornstrasse, was found by means of test boreholes.

Location and relics

The mine field stretched between Diepeschrath and Nussbaum .
