The Grunden Rock is a 15 m high cliff rock at the northeast end of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is surrounded by several smaller rocks and lies immediately east of Hut Cove on the south side of the entrance to Hope Bay .
He was discovered by participants in the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1903) led by Otto Nordenskjöld . The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey named the entire rock group as Grunden Rocks . It is named after Toralf Grunden (1874 – unknown), a member of the Swedish expedition who wintered in Hope Bay in 1903. In 1952, the name was limited to the largest of these rocks after Argentine scientists had erected a beacon on it the previous year .
