The Bad Suderodes primary school is a listed school building in the Bad Suderode district of the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt . It was used as a primary school until 2012 and is now empty (as of 2014).

location

The school is located in the northern part of the center of Bad Suderode, on the west side of Schulstrasse. The building is registered as a school in the local register of monuments. The old Bad Suderode Church is on the opposite side of the street .

Architecture and history

The school building was built as a type building in the middle of the 19th century. The seven-axis facade consists of rubble stones and is laid out symmetrically. The cornices and the walls of windows and doors are made of bricks.

The room layout is largely original. Original equipment such as windows, doors, fittings and the stairs have also been preserved. On the courtyard side, a small rubble passage was described in 2007.

The school had a timber-framed farm building that was built in the first half of the 18th century, but was demolished in 1999.

In the early 2000s, renovation work was carried out on the building. In the spring of 2012, a fire protection report was presented, which showed fire protection deficiencies and led to the immediate evacuation of the school. The Bad Suderode primary school therefore initially moved to Wing II of the Gernrode secondary school on the Hagenberg. For the period from the 2013/14 school year, it was decided to merge the Bad Suderode elementary school with the Gernrode elementary school. The background to the decision was the forecast low number of pupils between 29 and 37 children in the planning period up to 2018/19.
