Grupo de Operaciones Policiales Especiales (GOPE) is a team of special forces of the militarily organized Chilean police Carabineros de Chile .

The units of the GOPE are used for dangerous police work situations throughout Chile. Their duties include finding and defusing explosives , freeing hostages and making arrests in difficult conditions.

history

The Grupo de Operaciones Policiales Especiales was founded on June 7, 1979 when a federal law came into force, and its functions increased from the 1980s.
