Giuseppe Bagnera

Giuseppe Bagnera (born November 14, 1865 in Bagheria , † May 12, 1927 in Rome ) was an Italian mathematician.

Bagnera studied at the University of Palermo with Giovanni Guccia (founder of the Circolo Matematico di Palermo ) and Ernesto Cesàro, among others . In 1890 he received his laureate as an engineer and in 1895 as a mathematician. After he completed his habilitation in algebra in 1899, he became Professor of Analysis at the University of Messina in 1901 . After the earthquake in Messina in 1908, he went to Palermo as a professor of analysis. From 1922 he was a professor in Rome.

In 1909 he and Michele de Franchis received the Prix Bordin of the Académie des Sciences for work on hyperelliptical surfaces. He was a member of the Accademia dei Lincei . He was an honorary professor from the University of Washington.

He dealt with finite groups, Abelian functions and algebraic surfaces.

Pia Nalli is one of his students .
