European Regulators Group for Electronic Communications Networks and Services

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Regulators Group for electronic communications networks and services ( European Regulators Group for Electronic Communications Networks and Services , ERG ) is an EU -Körperschaft advisory regarding the regulation on the telecommunications market , based in Riga . It was founded on the decision of the EU Commission on July 29, 2002. The opening meeting took place on October 25, 2002 in Brussels.

Members are the independent national telecommunications regulatory authorities of the EU member states; the other regulators from the EEA and Switzerland have observer status.

In addition to the advisory function for the EU Commission, the cooperation between the regulators in the ERG also serves, in particular, to coordinate the implementation of the EU telecommunications regulatory framework in national law, for which the ERG members develop common positions .

However, these common positions are not legally binding on the national regulators. a. on the contrary to the specifications in common ERG bitstream position paper lack of implementation of the provider-defined DSLAM - switching parameters and - profiles in the regulation of the bitstream access by the Agency shows.

In the revision of the EU telecommunications regulatory framework, the EU Parliament plans to strengthen the competencies of the ERG instead of the establishment of a telecommunications regulatory authority at EU level proposed by the Commission. Influential EU members like Germany also go too far with these plans, because they fear that their national champions will be weakened in their home markets.

The body of European regulators for electronic communications (BEREC / BEREC) is a forum for cooperation between national regulatory authorities. It has replaced the predecessor organization ERG since 2010.
