Giardino group
The Giardino group is a political association in Switzerland that was founded as an association in Lucerne in 2010 . She sees the Swiss army and security policy in a “desolate situation” and calls for a “radical correction of the bourgeois security policy”.
The group includes high-ranking officers, including five former corps commanders and three former chiefs of the general staff . According to its own information, the group has over 800 members and sympathizers. In May 2012, the Giardino group published the book Courage to Change Course - Swiss Security Policy at a Turning Point and began collecting signatures for a petition to rebuild the Swiss militia army .
aims
One goal of the group is a strong, fully equipped militia army that can fulfill the defense mandate of the federal constitution . This is to be achieved through popular initiatives, among other things. The Giardino group rejected the Security Policy Report 2010 and called for it to be sent back to the Federal Council. These demands went much further than those of other army-friendly interest groups such as B. the Swiss Officers' Association ( SOG ), which stated that the report points in the right direction. The Giardino Group also rejected the 2010 Army Report and the Further Development of the Army (WEA). The group also calls for an overall societal consideration of defense capabilities, including an interruption in the sale or scrapping of defense material.
