History and creation

The association was founded under the name "Federal Military Society" during the regeneration period on November 24, 1833 by 130 officers from Zurich, Thurgau and St. Gallen in Winterthur .

Since the beginning, the association has been shaped by events and developments in Swiss history . Social, political and economic influences and disputes about the Swiss army have also always been of great importance.

organs

The association consists of three organs: the delegates' assembly, the board of directors and the auditors .

The highest body is the delegates' meeting, which is held annually. It includes the representatives of the cantonal officers ' societies and the specialist officers' societies . The SOG president, the board members and the auditors are elected by the assembly of delegates.

Colonel i Gst Stefan Holenstein has been acting President since 2016. In addition to him, at least twelve section members are part of the board. Its tasks are to take care of the day-to-day business and to represent the SOG externally. The ASMZ and International commissions, as well as two departments, namely SOG and security policy, are currently active.

Two officers from different sections are elected as auditors. They check the annual accounts and report in writing to the assembly of delegates.
