Group new
Group neumes consist of several neumes of Gregorian chant , which are on any same or different pitch . The simplest form of group neumes are the double tonum, which in turn consists of two single tonum . Group neumes, which are composed of three individual tones, are called triple tones . The combination of group neumes is multi- group neumes . The breakdown of group neumes into double or single tonum is also known as neum separation .

Group neumes can also be specified by adding certain suffices to the name of the neumes , whereby the intervals to the higher and lower following tones are always larger than a prime , but otherwise not further defined:

- flexus (Latin curved ) - for a deeper following tone
- praepunctis (Latin pre-dotted ) - for a preceding tone on the same pitch
- resupinus (Latin raised ) - for a higher pitch
- resupinus flexus - for a higher tone followed by a lower tone
- strophicus / strophica - for an attached stropha on the same pitch
- subbipunctis (Latin twice underdotted ) - for two lower subsequent tones
- subpunctis (Latin underdotted ) - for a deeper subsequent tone
For example, so a Clivis as Virga flexa , a Pes as Virga resupina , a porrectus as resupina Flexa , a torculus as Pes flexus or climacus as Virga subbipunctis are referred to, but this rarely happens in practice, because the names of these important New group members are established.
