The 120 cm long black-necked crane ( Grus nigricollis ) is a large white-gray bird with a black head and upper neck. The head has a white posterior eye spot and a red apex spot. The arm and hand wings are colored black.
This crane breeds mainly in the highlands of Tibet , but also in Ladakh in India . He winters in lower areas in China and Bhutan .
The population is estimated at 5600 to 6000 animals. The species is protected by law in India, China and Bhutan.
