Gruta da Furninha
The Gruta da Furninha ( German : Small Grotto ) is a cave in Portugal . It is located north of Lisbon near Cape Carvoeiro and not far from the Peniche fishing port .
A path and steps lead down from the coastal road to the cave. The Gruta da Furninha opens on the limestone steep slope to the southwest, about 15.0 meters above sea level.
It was first described in 1884 by JF Nery Delgado (1835-1908). He found more than seven Paleolithic and one Neolithic - Copper Age layer. The cave probably served as a burial place. The finds are in Lisbon in the Museu dos Services Geológicos .
