Guðmundur Daníelsson

Guðmundur Daníelsson (born October 4, 1910 in Guttormshagi ; † February 6, 1990 ) was an Icelandic writer. His works include novels, short stories, plays, poems and travelogues. The Lexicon of World Literature describes him as the author of u. a. Novels that are “close to national romanticism” and that “pay homage to a certain primitivism” but are in part of “high poetic beauty”.

Guðmundur was born the son of wealthy farmers and attended the teachers' college in Reykjavík from 1933 to 1934 . He traveled through Europe in 1936 and 1948/49 and was in the USA in 1945 . By profession he was a teacher and school director, from 1973 a freelance writer.

In the 1940s, Guðmundur lived in a house in Eyrarbakki , built in 1765 , which is one of the oldest in the country and is now a local museum. Seven of his books were written there.
