Guangweicaris spinatus is a species from the genus Guangweicaris with an uncertain position within the arthropods (Arthropoda).
features
The body of Guangweicaris spinatus was long (between 60 and 65 mm) and shrimp-like. The head shield ( cephalon ), consisting of 3 tergites that became larger and wider towards the rear and a small, narrow acron , was almost triangular in outline and tapered towards the front. The rear edge of the 3rd tergite was straight and without lateral spines. The thorax consisted of 4 large and broad tergites and had a spine in the middle and on the sides. The abdomen , consisting of 6 tergites, was long, columnar, narrower than the thorax and gradually tapered backwards. The spines in the center of each tergite were roughly the same as those of the thorax, but the lateral ones were only short thorns. The telson was elongated-elliptical with a flat surface and ended in a 3 to 5 mm long spine.
etymology
The specific epithet spinatus is Latin for prickly and is due to the presence of spines on each tergite of the thorax and abdomen.
Locations
About 100, of which 39 were completely preserved, were found in the Wulongqing Formation at the foot of Shitangshan Mountain near the village of Guangwei, southeast of Kunming , Yunnan Province . Only 5 incompletely preserved specimens were found in Gangtoucun, north of Kunming, and Lihuazhuang, Yiliang County .
Systematics
Guangweicaris spinatus is the type of the genus Guangweicaris . The specimens found in Gangtoucun and Lihuazhuang were named Habelia? sp. described.
