The Guards Polo Club is a traditional polo club in England . It was founded on January 25, 1955 and is located in Windsor Great Park, west of London . Queen Elizabeth II is its patron.

history

The Guards Polo Club was founded for the Guards Division of the British Army and was initially called the Household Brigade Polo Club. The club has had its current name since 1969. Members of this division are exempt from the entry fee to date, which is £ 17,000 for other members. Prince Philip , the Queen's spouse , has presided over the club since its inception .

The club has about 1000 non-playing and 160 playing members.

The Guards Polo Club has ten polo fields on an area of ​​53 hectares . The nearby Flemish Farm has 120 stables, pastures and a practice area. In April 2009 a new clubhouse was inaugurated.

Tournaments

The club hosts numerous low-goal to high-goal tournaments during the season and is one of only four polo clubs in the UK to host high-goal tournaments; the other clubs are Cirencester Park, Cowdray Park and Royal Berkshire. The most famous tournament in the Guards Polo Club is the Queen's Cup , which takes place every year in June / July. Other tournaments are the Royal Windsor Cup (Medium Goal), the Archie David Cup (Low Goal) and the Duke of Wellington Trophy. The Guards Polo Club also hosts International Day, which is co-organized with the Hurlingham Polo Association .
