Sculpture Gud Fader på himmelsbågen

Gud Fader på himmelsbågen ( German : God the Father on the Arch of Heaven ) is a sculpture in Nacka in Sweden .

It is located directly at the Nacka Strand brygga jetty , south of the shipping route from the Baltic Sea to Stockholm, which is just a little further west .

The sculpture was created by the American sculptor Marshall Fredericks in 1995 based on plans by the Swedish sculptor Carl Milles . It has a total height of 23 meters and consists of a parabolic, approximately 18-meter-high arch from the end of which water flows in continuation of the parabolic arch. The arch should represent the vault of the sky. On top of the arch is the Lord God. At the foot of the arch there is an angel who hands the gentleman stars that he wants to place on the fimament.

Carl Milles had sketched the sculpture on the stationery of the hotel in 1946 on the occasion of the constitution of the United Nations in New York during a stay at the New York hotel The Plaza . Milles planned the arch with a height of 12 meters and envisaged an area between the East River and the UN headquarters as the installation site . He saw the sculpture as a symbol of peace and an homage to the founding of the United Nations . The name he intended for the sculpture was The Rainbow. Lord placing new stars on heaven . However, the project was not implemented. The sketch remained in Millesgården .

Forty years after the death of Carl Milles, Marshall Fredericks, a student of Carl Milles, created today's sculpture.
