life and work

Gasperini was a student of Guido Tacchinardi in composition and a student of Jefte Sbolci in cello . From 1902 to 1924 he worked as the director of the library of the Parma Conservatory and as a teacher of music history. From 1924 to 1935 he was the director of the library of the Conservatory of Naples.

In 1908 he founded the Associazione die Musicologi Italiani in Ferrara. The main concern of this organization has been the screening, research and cataloging of all musical literature in Italian public and private libraries as a basis for critical revisions for the best Italian music editors and music authors. In 1909 this society was integrated as the Italian section into the International Music Society (IMG) and from then on it published a quarterly catalog on Italian music literature. This project was interrupted by the First World War and completely stopped after Gasperini's death. It was Claudio Sartori who took up the issue again as part of the international musicological collaboration and the Répertoire international des sources musicales project .
