Guido Novello da Polenta
Guido Novello da Polenta († 1323 in Bologna ) was a northern Italian ruler and author of poems.
Guido da Polenta was the son of Ostasio da Polenta . In 1275 he took control of Ravenna , which he ruled until he was ousted in 1322.
In 1316 (according to older authors 1319 or 1320) he granted Dante , who had been expelled from Florence and had last lived in real poverty, asylum in Ravenna, where he was able to complete his Divine Comedy . From then on he was friends with Dante. In 1321 he sent him on a diplomatic mission to Venice , from which the poet returned sick and died a short time later.
Guido da Polenta was the father of Francesca da Rimini .
