Guido Steinberg

Guido Walter Steinberg (born May 13, 1968 in Trier ) is a German scholar of Islam and is considered an expert on Islamist terrorism.

Life

Steinberg studied from 1989 to 1996 at the University of Cologne and at the University of Damascus (Syria) Middle and New History as well as Islamic Studies and Political Science with a master's degree. In 2000 he started working on religion and the state in Saudi Arabia . The Wahhabi scholars received their doctorate from the Free University of Berlin from 1902 to 1952 .

In 2001 he was the coordinator of the newly founded interdisciplinary center "Building blocks for a social history of the Middle East". After September 11, 2001 , Steinberg moved to the German Federal Chancellery as a terrorism officer , where he worked until October 2005.

He has published numerous books and articles on Saudi Arabian and Iraqi history and politics, as well as Islamism and terrorism.

He currently works for the Science and Politics Foundation (SWP) in Berlin.
