Guillaume II. De Garlande

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Guillaume II. De Garlande (German: Wilhelm von Garlande ; † 1120 ) was a Seneschal of France in the 12th century. He was a younger son of Guillaume I. de Garlande, his brothers were Anseau and Étienne , both of whom also held the office of Seneschal.

At Anseau's side, Guillaume served as a knight in the suite of King Louis VI. of France in the fight against rebellious castle lords. After his brother was killed in the siege of Le Puiset in 1118 , the king entrusted Guillaume with the office of seneschal. On August 20, 1119, he led the French knights at the side of the king in the battle of Brémule , in which, however, they suffered a defeat against the Norman Henry I Beauclerc .

His children were:

  • Guillaume III. de Garlande († around 1154)
  • Manassès de Garlande († 1185), Bishop of Orléans
  • Agnes de Garlande, 1st ∞ with Robert II. Mauvoisin, 2nd ∞ with Dreux III. de Mello
