Gulmu

Gulmu (Gourma) is the African kingdom of gourmantché .

history

It was founded by Diaba Lompo with the capital Pama . Later, in the 18th century, Yendabri Gulmus moved the capital to Fada N'Gourma .

Towards the end of the 19th century, when the European colonial powers penetrated into the interior of West Africa, Gulmu was in the sphere of interest of both the Germans and the French. A German expedition from Togo under Gruner and von Carnap-Quernheimb reached Pama in January 1895 shortly before the French and then concluded a treaty with the King of Matiakoali . The French expedition from Dahomey under Decoeur and Baud concluded a protectorate treaty with Batchandé, the king of Fada N'Gourma. Both colonial powers claimed to have signed a treaty with the real King of Gulmu. Therefore, in 1897, the French came to Batchandé's help to enforce his claim to power against rebellious villages such as Diapaga, Tibga, Bilanga, Matiakoali, Diapaga and Maadaga by force. Gaston Thierry failed, however, with the belated attempt to set up a German administration in Pama. The Franco-German unification of 1897 was soon followed by the incorporation into the French colonial empire as 'Cercle de Fada N'Gourma', as part of the French colony of Upper Volta , today's Burkina Faso .

The Gulmu Kingdom still exists today, albeit with no administrative power; the current king of Gulmu is Koupiendiéli.
