Fada N'Gourma is a city (commune urbaine) and a department covering the same area in the east of the West African state of Burkina Faso on the road from Ouagadougou to Niamey . It is the capital of the Est region and the province of Gourma and the seat of the King of Gourmantché . The area has 124,577 inhabitants in the main town, which is divided into eleven sectors, and the 33 associated villages.

Fada N'Gourma is a lively small town with several government offices and a hospital, a large central market and a bus station. To the south are nature reserves and hunting zones.

Fada N'Gourma was founded by Diaba Lompo under the name Bingo and later also known under the name Nungu . Yendabri made it his capital. A baobab near the royal court is said to bear the hoof prints of the horse on which Yendabri is said to have ridden to heaven.

Culture

  • The FESDIG (Festival au Dilembu Gulmu) is a cultural festival for seven years in the village Tiantiaka in the east of Burkina Faso, 27 km from Fada N'Gourma takes place. The aim of the festival is to improve the socio-economic conditions in the Tiantiaca area by drawing on its cultural, artistic and agricultural potential. The initiator of FESDIG is the ATCD (Association Todiyaba pour la Culture et le Développment) based in Fada N'Gourma.
