The rubber-Mayer GmbH & Co. KG (own notation: RUBBER MAYER ), headquartered in Landau (Pfalz) was a manufacturer of retreaded tires and a tire dealer. After retreading and selling the tire trading division, the company now acts as a real estate developer and manager.

In 1969 the company was considered Germany's largest tire dealer and retreader. At its peak, the company employed around 1,500 people. By the end of the 1980s, sales were around 500 million Deutschmarks.

history

In 1919 Hans Mayer sen. a repair shop for rubber tires and inner tubes and developed a process for retreading tires. He sold these under the brand name "Gummi-Mayer" from 1929. After the end of the Second World War, the French army entrusted the company with the distribution and storage of tires for the French occupation zone it controlled, so that business operations could quickly be resumed and expanded.

After the founder's death, his son Hans Mayer jun. The Board. Under his aegis, the company developed into one of the largest tire dealers. The world's most modern factory for tire retreading was built in Landau. He died in 1987 and the company passed to his sons Hans and Franz Mayer.

Changes in the car tire market led to the closure of the retreading plant in 1990, so that Gummi-Mayer was only active as a tire dealer and tire service. 2001 tire sales of rubber-Mayer merged with Stinnes Tire Service for Viborg group , which in today for the 2002 Michelin belonging Corporation Euro Master rose group.

Since then, Gummi-Mayer has been involved in the administration and development of the company's own real estate.

Sponsorship

From 1970 to 1979 the soccer teams of ASV Landau appeared under the name of Gummi-Mayer Landau in ASV .
