Gundoald of Asti

Gundoald, Duke of Asti (* 565 ; † 616 ) was the son of the Bavarian Duke Garibald I and his wife Walderada . Together with his sister Theudelinde , Gundoald left in 589, when the Franks threatened the Duchy of Bavaria, to join the Lombards in Italy, where Theudelinde married the Lombard Duke Authari . There Gundoald received the Duchy of Asti and married a granddaughter of King Wachos . With this he had two children, Gundpert and Aripert I. , and thus became the progenitor of the Agilolfing kings of the Lombards. Gundoald died in 616 from an arrow shot by an unknown perpetrator.
