Gunter Schneider (biochemist)

Gunter Schneider (* 1953 in Neunkirchen (Saar) ) is a German-Swedish biochemist with the main focus of Structural Biology and Functional Analysis of polyketide antibiotics and proteins of Mycobacterium tuberculosis . He is a member of the Steering Committee of the Röntgen Ångström Cluster , the Nobel Assembly and the Aeropath Consortium.

After studying chemistry at Saarland University , he received his doctorate there in 1983 in the laboratory of Michael Zeppezauer and Hans Eklund . He later became a research associate at Uppsala University in Carl-Ivar Brändén's group .

In 1989 he became a lecturer and group leader in the Department of Molecular Biology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala.

Since 1995 he has been Professor and Head of the Department of Molecular Structural Biology at the Faculty of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Karolinska Institutet near Stockholm .

He is married to the structural biologist Ylva Lindqvist , daughter of the crystal chemist Ingvar Lindqvist .
