from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gunther-R. Eggert , known as the author as Rod Finkenstein , (* before 1945 in Gollnow ) is a German director , choreographer, author, dancer, actor and singer.

Life

Eggert was born in Gollnow (near Stettin) in what is now Poland and had to flee there with his parents at a young age. He started his career as a dancer in Flensburg. In addition to classical ballet training, he completed extensive jazz and tap dance training in New York and was a solo dancer under John Cranko at the Württemberg State Theater in Stuttgart . At this time he began to work out his first choreographies, founded and directed the German Jazz Ballet and won the 1st prize for jazz choreography from the Amerika Haus in Munich.

Since he was more and more interested in theater in general, he worked for Günther Rennert , Stuttgart State Opera, Vienna and Paris Opera and in the field of spoken theater with Peter Palitzsch and Karl Vibach, Stuttgart, Staatsschauspiel. The next step took him first as a television choreographer for Süddeutscher Rundfunk Fernsehen, Stuttgart, then as chief choreographer and editor for ZDF Mainz. It was here that he began directing television for the first time.

This was followed by over 200 film and television productions as a director, choreographer, author and editor for almost all German television stations. This also includes: film work in Vienna with Herbert von Karajan , director and editor in advertising and a 1st prize in Paris for a commercial. Gunther-R. Eggert played a key role in the quiz program "Recognize the Melody", for which he was responsible for 48 episodes as a choreographer and often took part as a dancer.

He specialized in musicals, worked freelance at many German theaters and from 1975 to 1983 was a permanent member of the one-time double position as senior stage director for musicals and operettas and ballet director at Theater Dortmund . In his artistic work he can refer to more than a hundred productions and choreographies, including German, European and world premieres. He has worked with many well-known artists, such as B. Herbert v. Karajan, Wilhelm Schüchter, René Kollo, Udo Jürgens, Max Greger, Ernst Stankowski, Paul Kuhn, Eva Pflug, Irene Mann, Maria Schell, Hartwig Rudolz, Gitte, Mary Roos, Ingeborg Hallstein, Helmut Zacharias, Peter Kraus, Roberto Blanco, James Krüss, Kurt Graunke, Sir Peter Ustinov, Marlene Charell, Bibi Johns, Vivi Bach, Rex Gildo, Carel Gott, Axel Führbringer, Lil Babs, Jürgen Feind u. a.

He was a musical man from the very beginning in Germany as an actor, choreographer and director, and one can say that he made a decisive contribution to establishing the musical in Germany. His tap dance earned him the title “the German Fred Astaire”.

For several years now, the Munich-based artist has also been working as an author under the pseudonym Rod Finkenstein. His works appear in the TOP MUSIC edition of the "G. Ricordi-Verlag Munich". He is co-author of the musical "Jack the Ripper" by Günther Fischer and Stefan Berliner, which premiered in this version in Plauen . In 2006, as an author and director, he brought the first musical about the life of Karl Valentin with the title "Fun an der Freud" to its world premiere in Munich.

On July 15, 2009 Gunther-R. Eggert can look back on 60 years of stage work.
