Gunther Belitz (born April 4, 1963 ) is a former German athlete and gold medalist of the Paralympics . He is editor-in-chief of the German magazine Handicap .

Career

Gunther Belitz was appointed with his achievements in the short running distances as well as in the high and long jump in the German national athletics team for handicapped people, with which he took part in international competitions such as the Paralympic Games and World Championships for the disabled. He had his first major success at the Paralympic Summer Games in 1988 , where he reached the final round in the long jump.

At the 1992 Paralympic Summer Games in Barcelona , he won the long jump in his performance group J1. In addition to this success, he won a bronze medal in the 100-meter run at these Paralympics .

Belitz also won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Athletics for the disabled in 1994 with the German national team for disabled people in the 100-meter run in the T 42 group in 15.48 seconds.

After all, he was also successful at the Paralympic Summer Games in 1996 and 2000 as a member of the German national team. In 1996 he won a silver medal in the long jump, while in 2000 he was third in the high jump.

For winning a medal in 1992 he received the Silver Laurel Leaf on June 13, 1993 from Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker .
