Gerhard Schöffler (born October 18, 1931 ) was at the beginning of the 1950s at BSG Motor Gera football player in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

When the company sports club (BSG) Motor Gera went into their second league season in 1950/51 , they took several young players into the squad. Among them was Gerhard Schöffler, who was not yet 19 years old. His coach Erich Dietel had him play for the first time on the 4th matchday as a replacement for the injured striker Edgar Klotz . Since Schöffler proved to be a failure as a right winger, he was only used again in the last four league games of the season. In the meantime Walter Gloede had taken over the training, and he used Schöffler as a replacement for the injured midfielder Helmut Sturm . In the 1951/52 season Gloede Gerhard Schöffler initially offered up to the 7th matchday in five league games as a striker. When another new coach came with Oskar Büchner , Schöffler was not considered until the 22nd matchday. But when two strikers, Klotz and Horst Freitag, were canceled at the same time, Schöffler made four more appearances. In these games he also scored his only two goals in the league. After the two league seasons Schöffler ended his career as a competitive footballer. He joined the fourth-class BSG Motor Gera as an after-work athlete, with whom he rose as a player-coach in the district league in 1960 .
