Edgar Klotz (born August 21, 1927 ) is a former German soccer player who played first division soccer between 1949 and 1952 with SG Gera-Süd and the successor communities .

Athletic career

In the first final of the East German FDGB Cup on August 28, 1949, BSG Waggonbau Dessau and SG Gera-Süd faced each other. In the 0: 1 defeated Gera team, 22-year-old Edgar Klotz was placed in the position of left winger. He was then called up for the team of SG players, with which they wanted to go into the first season of the newly founded soccer zone league (later DS-Oberliga, GDR-Oberliga ).

Klotz was used in the first league game and scored his first goal in the zone league in a 5-1 victory over BSG Vorwärts Schwerin . By the end of the season he had a total of six championship goals and was the second best shooter of his team behind Georg Buschner . With 23 matches he was part of the SG Gera-Süd player base. After Klotz had played the first three point games in the 1950/51 season, he injured himself so badly that he was out for the rest of the first half of the season. It was only in the 20th championship game that he was able to participate again, completed all subsequent league encounters and thus made 19 appearances in the 34-game season. Despite his protracted failure, he was again one of the best attackers in Gera with his seven goals.

After the Gera team appeared in the previous one as BSG Mechanik, they played as BSG Motor Gera in 1951/52. Klotz was still part of the squad, but played his first league game of the season on matchday 8. With two interruptions he was used regularly until the 20th league game, but the 21st round meant his last game in the league. In the encounter Turbine Erfurt - Motor Gera (7: 2) he was substituted on in the 25th minute. He had made a total of 54 missions in three seasons and scored 14 goals. In the 1953/54 season, Gera had previously been relegated from the league, Klotz played nine points games for BSG Motor Gera without scoring in the second-rate GDR league . After that he no longer played in the higher class football of the GDR .
