Erich Dietel (born December 21, 1912 in Planitz ; † June 1, 1991 in Hermsdorf ) was a German football coach.

Athletic career

Dietel began his active career as a footballer in 1930 at Planitzer SC . Initially only active in the second team, he later made it to the first team, which was champion of the Gauliga Sachsen in 1942 and advanced to the quarter-finals in the final round of the German championship .

Dietel worked as a coach for the Planitz team in 1948 and was therefore jointly responsible for the team's success at the Eastern Zone Championship when SG Freiimfelde Halle was defeated 1-0 in the final. In 1949 Dietel became the responsible trainer at BSG Gera-Süd , with whom he advanced to the final of the FDGB Cup after winning the Thuringia Cup . The final in Halle was lost 0-1 against BSG Waggonbau Dessau . The won second place qualified the team for the newly created GDR league , which the Gera completed in 11th place in the table, with Dietel participated in two games himself. In the 1950/51 season he took over the newly formed team of BSG Mechanik Gera, which was created after the merger of Gera-Süd and BSG RFT Gera . He led their league team to 8th place until the end of the first half of the season, but then retired from Mechanik Gera.

In 1951 Dietel was briefly a trainer at the fourth-class BSG Chemie Hermsdorf before he went back to Saxony to the upper division BSG Motor Zwickau . Again he moved into the final of the FDGB Cup with his team. But even in 1954 it was not enough to win; this time he lost 1: 2 against ZSK Vorwärts Berlin . In November of the same year Dietel took over the position of assistant coach at Einheit Dresden under Hans Siegert .

In May 1956 Dietel became Empor Rostock's trainer for five months . He took over the Hanseatic League after the seventh match day from Willi Möhring, who was in last place in the table, and scored three wins and two draws from 15 games with the team, which was not enough to keep them up. After a 3-1 defeat at SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt , Dietel was replaced by Lothar Wiesner and Kurt Zapf .

Dietel returned to Hermsdorf in 1966 via Weimar and 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig . With BSG Motor, he won the championship in the Gera district for the first time in 1969 and was promoted to the GDR league . After direct relegation, he was promoted again in 1971, but again only brought one year in the league. In 1973 Dietel ended his coaching career.

Erich Dietel died on June 1, 1991 at the age of 73 in Hermsdorf.
