Gustav Adolf Koch
Gustav Adolf Koch (born October 10, 1846 in Wallern an der Trattnach , † May 27, 1921 in Gmunden ) was an Austrian geologist.
Gustav Adolf Koch was the son of a pastor and studied mathematics and physics at the University of Vienna from 1867 to 1871 . He then taught at the Oberrealschule III in Vienna. In 1873 he received his doctorate and was a geologist at the Geological Reichsanstalt in Vienna until 1877. From 1877 he was a teacher again and in 1881 he became a private lecturer in geology and mineralogy at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, where he became an associate professor in 1893 and a full professor in 1899. In 1907/08 he was rector of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences . In 1908 he became a councilor and in 1914 he retired.
He was particularly concerned with applied geology and, as a geologist, was involved in planning the route for the Arlbergbahn , for example the Arlberg tunnel . Further topics were drinking water, mineral and thermal springs, natural resources (oil, natural gas, coal, ores, minerals).
In 1888 he became a member of the Leopoldina . He was a corresponding member of the Geological Reichsanstalt and on the board of the Geographical Society in Vienna.
