Gustav Bülau

Gustav Bülau (born September 6, 1799 in Hamburg ; † July 20, 1857 there ) was a German doctor .

Live and act

Gustav Bülau studied medicine at the University of Halle from 1819 to 1822 . He received his doctorate there in 1822 with the thesis "De natura curationeque febris puerperalis" and then worked as a general practitioner in his hometown. In 1824 he took a job in the general hospital and in 1839 got a job as a "hospital doctor". In this role he headed the Department of Internal Diseases and the Medical Directorate. In addition, he was entrusted with the insane asylum and was involved in the planning of the insane asylum that was built in 1861.

Bülau was considered an excellent doctor who introduced the latest examination methods in the St. Georg Hospital , but hardly published them. He chaired the scientific negotiations of the Medical Association, where he presented medical reports and demonstrated scientifically relevant preparations.

His son, Gotthard Bülau was also a doctor. The Bülau drainage is named after him. Since 1892 the Bülaustraße in Hamburg-St. George .
