Gustav Cords

Gustav Cords (born October 12, 1870 in Hamburg , † February 18, 1951 in Berlin ) was a German composer .

biography

Gustav Cords was the son of a cellist at the Hamburg State Opera . From 1887 to 1891 he studied composition in Hamburg , Sondershausen and Wiesbaden with the famous music theorist Hugo Riemann (1849–1919), whose students included Cords' contemporaries Max Reger and Hans Pfitzner . From 1894–1911 he was violinist at the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden , 1911–1919 President of the General German Musicians' Association in Berlin and then, with the title “ Chamber Musician ”, member of the Staatskapelle Berlin .
