Gustav Haug

Gustav Haug (born November 30, 1871 in Strasbourg , † April 22, 1956 in St. Gallen ) was a Swiss composer and conductor .

Life

Gustav Haug, who was born in Strasbourg, received his musical training at the municipal conservatory in his hometown before taking up a position as a music teacher in Rorschach in 1895 . In 1899 he was appointed organist and chief conductor in Gais in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden , in 1904 he moved to St. Gallen in the same position, where he also taught at the boys' secondary school from 1912. Gustav Haug held the position of Cantonal Director of Appenzeller from 1907 to 1920, and from 1928 to 1937 that of the St. Gallen Cantonal Singers' Association.

Gustav Haug's compositional work includes a number of choral works, some with orchestral accompaniment, including Swiss Prayer . Gustav Haug published a collection of songs under the title “Alpenrosen” as well as exercises for school singing lessons .
