Gustav Heckmann
Gustav Heckmann (born April 22, 1898 in Voerde near Wesel ; † June 8, 1996 in Hanover ) was a German teacher, philosopher and member of the SPD . During the time of National Socialism he belonged as a German emigrant to the International Socialist Combat League .
Life
Heckmann studied mathematics, physics and philosophy in Göttingen , where he also received his doctorate in 1924 under Max Born and in 1925 passed the state examination for the teaching post. After teaching at the Walkemühle National Education Center , he emigrated to Denmark in 1933 and to Great Britain in 1938 after the transfer of power to the National Socialists. Together with Minna Specht he worked there at the follow-up schools to the fulling mill in Östrupgaard and Butcombe Court.
Services
After the end of the Second World War , he received the professorship for philosophy and education at the Hanover University of Education in 1946 . Like most members of the ISK, after its dissolution after 1945, he joined the SPD , where he came into conflict with the party leadership in 1950 when he initiated a collection of signatures that criticized the articles on school policy in the state constitution of North Rhine-Westphalia. Heckmann and his friends were of the opinion that the SPD had been too accommodating to the churches in the context of the constitutional debate, thereby restricting the teachers' freedom of conscience and exposing the schools to clerical control .
Heckmann enriched the Socratic Conversation method according to Leonard Nelson with new aspects such as the meta-conversation.
As a staunch opponent of nuclear weapons, he was involved from the start in the Easter March movement against nuclear weapons in East and West and was one of the speakers at the closing rally of the first star march from Hamburg, Bremen and Braunschweig / Hanover in 1960 in Bergen-Hohne.
Gustav Heckmann died on June 8, 1996 at the age of 98.
