Gustav Johannes Georg Hellmann (born July 3, 1854 in Leuven , Silesia , † February 21, 1939 in Berlin ) was a German meteorologist and climatologist .

Hellmann was interim director of the Prussian Meteorological Institute in Berlin from 1882 to 1885. In 1886 he became a part-time professor at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin and headed the climatology department of the Prussian Meteorological Institute, of which he was ultimately director from 1907 to 1922. He introduced new measuring devices, including the Hellmann rain gauge to determine precipitation , into climate research . From 1892 to 1907 he was editor of the Meteorological Journal together with Julius von Hann . The Hellmann Medal , donated on his 75th birthday in 1929, was named in his honor.
