Gustav Lochs
Gustav Emil Maria Johannes Lochs (born February 2, 1907 in St. Johann in Tirol , † December 11, 1988 ) was an Austrian mathematician.
Lochs studied mathematics from 1925 at the University of Innsbruck , where he received his doctorate under Konrad Zindler in 1928 ( About the affine normals of the trajectories of a plane movement ). He then worked as an assistant at the observatory of the University of Innsbruck and from 1931 to 1933 at the University of Hamburg . From 1934 to 1945 he was works secretary in the textile industry in Kennelbach (Vorarlberg). In 1945 he was again an assistant at the University of Innsbruck, in 1949 a private lecturer and in 1954 an associate professor. 1957/58 he was an associate professor at Oregon State College in Corvallis. After a substitute professorship in Münster (1960), he became associate professor in Innsbruck in 1961. In 1965 he became a full professor and in 1977 he retired.
In 1964 he published Lochs' theorem .
Professors Klaus Leeb and Peter Weiss are among his doctoral students .
In 1951 he published the revised lectures on differential and integral calculus by Leopold Vietoris (Innsbruck, Universitäts-Verlag Wagner).
