Gustav Johannes Wied (born March 6, 1858 in Branderslev near Nakskov , † October 24, 1914 in Roskilde ) was a Danish writer .

Life

Gustav Wied was the son of a wealthy landowner. He tried his hand at a wide variety of professions until he settled down as a freelance writer in 1890.

His stories are characterized by bizarre humor and sharp satire , with which he described the people of his homeland. In his work, Wied addressed his critical relationship to society, which was accompanied by deep pessimism.

On October 24, 1914, Wied committed suicide in Roskilde.
