Living Stone

Living Stone as it was in 2015

The Living Stone sculpture has been located on the square since 2000 . The eight-ton, yellow tuff stone from a now disused quarry near Sinsheim in Kraichgau is intended to symbolize the change in Gallus. “Nothing stays as it is” is the inscription on the monument. Michael Siebel , the artistic director of the Gallus sculptor's workshop who had the stone set up, lets young people from difficult backgrounds work on the sculpture at irregular intervals, which changes accordingly. In 2015 the sculptor Simon Vogt edited and changed the sculpture again together with the residents and members of the youth culture workshop in its current state. Only the emblematic inscription “NOTHING REMAINS AS IT IS”, which was chiseled into the stone from the start, remains unchanged.
