The Gutshof Galkhausen of the Rheinische Kliniken Langenfeld is located in Galkhausen and was awarded a monument in 2005.
From the old days
The estate of today's Rheinische Kliniken was from 1897 the building ground for the 6th Provincial Insane Asylum , as the hospital was once called. Good forms the local situation Galkhausen in Reusrath and represents one of the oldest settlements in Langenfeld . The first mention of the material was 1347. A mention in 1440 in a document of the convent Altenberg occurs casually in the course of a plot transaction on Berenbroich. In any case, around 1442 the farm was owned by the Soutmanns because they exchanged it for 17.5 acres of farmland in Neurath, among other things . At that time the state of the farm was described as "unbawig and desolate". In 1466 the farm was bought by the von Etzbach family, and then in 1829 to the baron Johann Wilhelm von Mirbach zu Harff. In 1816 13 residents are named for the estate.
From new times
The estate of the Rheinische Kliniken with the asylum church , which is also under monument protection, continued to be used for agriculture from 1900 to 1971 after the hospital was built. In the war and post-war years, the estate largely supplied the hospital with its income from livestock and vegetable cultivation. After the farm was closed, the farm was used for work therapy in the 1980s to treat patients and the farm was converted to biodynamic horticulture (Inauguration: June 3, 1987). Sheep farming was finally stopped in 2001. After extensive renovation and renovation in the years 2004–2005, the building now serves as a modern therapy center and houses some of the clinic's service operations and a small museum.
