Life

The son of a Chemnitz soap boiler attended the royal state school in Meißen from 1805. From 1811 he began studying Protestant theology at the universities of Wittenberg and Leipzig , which he completed with a master's degree. After successfully completing the candidate exam in 1815, he initially took over as a private tutor in Dresden , Gommern and Brietzke near Loburg . From 1818 vicarages in Neukirchen , Jahnsdorf and Burkhardtsdorf followed before he was appointed deacon of Pausa in 1824 , where he witnessed the town fire of September 11, 1824. In 1832 he was called to the small town of Scheibenberg in the Ore Mountains, where he took office on the 1st of Advent. In addition to theological writings, Dietrich wrote several descriptions of the town fire and the reconstruction of Pausa as well as a chronicle of Scheibenberg in two volumes.

As part of his spiritual service, Dietrich created extensive registers for the church records in Scheibenberg, expanded and arranged the cemetery and took care of social affairs in his community. He organized the women's service and stood up for the poor and needy craftsmen, especially those who were arrested after the nail smiths' revolt in 1848.
