history

The old Sorbian original form on which the place name is based is likely to be * Komeŕane. It goes back to the loan word "komora", which corresponds to the German word "Kammer". The place name means "settlement of the subjects of the ducal chamber". The basic form * Komaŕno, which goes back to * komor ("mosquito") and means "mosquito place" (cf. Komáří hůrka / Mückenberg), can not be excluded . The place name was first mentioned in 1206 as part of the personal name "F [ridericus] de Komeram". Historians therefore assume that there was a manor house in the village at that time. In the centuries that followed, a variety of spellings were in use, including "Kameran", "Komerel", "Gummeran", "Gommerelle", "Kommereln" and "Gommerlein". The place is mentioned as "Gommern" in 1511 and 1791, among others.

Gommern was built as a double round hamlet and was surrounded by a 201 hectare corridor . The place was parish for centuries after Dohna in the Marienkirche , since 1899 afterwards to Mügeln. The basic rule exercised in 1551 Melchior of Korbitz as the owner of the manor in Meusegast from the 17th century then the owners of the manor Gamig . The administration of the place was in 1445 the care Dresden, 1473 the care Dohna and 1497 the care Pirna. From 1590 the office of Pirna and then in 1856 the court office of Pirna was responsible. On the basis of the rural community code of 1838 , Gommern gained independence as a rural community. In 1875 this was part of the Pirna Authority . In the years before the First World War , the place grew into an industrial community. On April 1st, 1920 Gommern merged with Mügeln and Heidenau to form the new municipality of Heidenau. The Engelhardt nursery, which was founded in Leuben in 1914 and specializes in dahlias , has been based in Gommern since 1968. The Erlichtmühle, first mentioned in 1418, is now a residential and business center.
